Learning Japanese

It is just after 5:00pm and the musical chimes have just finished ringing. Everywhere, everyday in Japan at exactly 5:00pm a little jingle is played to mark the end of the day. Whether or not people stop working then is another story.

On a positive note, I scored 100% on my Japanese test today. I am also including a photo below. I bet you all (meaning anyone who has not been to Japan) think that Japan looks like this. I promise you, although this picture was taken here, nowhere in Japan looks like this.

I bet there was a fast food place or a combini right next to it though!

just a little amendment to you comment on the 5pm chime.

The reasoning behind it is for the benefit of children. Japanese children grow up learning that when that chime goes off, thats their cue to go home - theres japanese lyrics that go with that chime and it says "Alright little ones, run along to your homes and parents, the day is done" something to that effect.

The reason isn't only that but the chime also goes off when dangerous weather is about to hit, so the children aren't alarmed but just know "ah, chime, lets go home"

just wanted to give you a little more background on it.
